SLC AWARDS 2018 WINNERS REVEALED

Representatives of some of the top sports and leisure venues in the UK gathered at the illustrious BAFTA London on Wednesday, September 12th, for the third annual Sports & Leisure Catering Awards.

During the past year, SLC Magazine has travelled the length and breadth of the country to find the caterers at the forefront of taking F&B in everything from art galleries to stadia, to new heights.

Some 200 guests packed out the famous Piccadilly venue for a night of congratulations, with industry peers celebrating what is an extremely fast-paced and evolving sector.

Firstly, guests were treated to a live interview with Neil Worcester, managing director of sports venue caterer Fabulous Fan Fayre (F3).

In a Q&A session with host Marc Durden-Smith, Worcester spoke of F3’s flagship hospitality project, The Tunnel Club at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, which allows guests to see into the players’ tunnel from the comfort of the exclusive bar and restaurant.

Worcester outlined the challenges for catering in large venue, from quicker payment solutions to the development of new F&B apps and the difficulty of staff retention through to fresh and packaged foot items.

Representatives from SLC Awards sponsors – Bewley’s, Britvic, Dr Oetker Professional, McCormick and Proper Cornish – handing out awards, before the lively after party which featured music by Startle.

Sports & Leisure Catering magazine editor Joe Bill said: “We have really seen an evolution of the sports and leisure catering sector this year.
“The gap between the two ends of the spectrum has really shrunk, with the quality of grab and go retail dining available to general admission ticket holders improving considerably, while the emergence of a more tiered approach to corporate hospitality has made it available to more customers than ever before.

“This year we had entries from stadia, sports centres, galleries, racecourses, golf clubs and even air shows, proving just how diverse the sector is. Congratulations to all of our winners.”

Taking home the coveted SLC Caterer of the Year Award was Keith Prowse at The Fever-Tree Championships, The Queen’s Club.

Judges said: “Using technology to show guests what they will experience before they commit to a visit, while also providing multiple, affordable options has meant that their offer is open to more people.

“The creation of the customer satisfaction programme to help them stay on-trend and give the customer exactly what they want was exceptional. Well done.”
